Rémy Cointreau has appointed ex-Pernod Ricard Africa CEO Grégory Leymarie to the newly created position of global managing director of ‘emerging markets’.

Leymarie, who is due to take up the position on 1 September, will be tasked with growing the business in the AMEI (Africa, Middle East and India), CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), LATAM (Latin America), Carribean and Asia regions. He joins the spirits brand owner after 22 months as MD of French wine business Groupe Thunevin.

Before joining Groupe Thunevin, Leymarie spent 12 years at Pernod Ricard. He joined in 2012 as MD of the group’s Southern Central Africa unit and worked up to CEO of Pernod Ricard Africa – a position he held for four years.

“Emerging markets offer a fantastic growth potential, and it is a strategic area of focus for the group,” Rémy Cointreau’s group chief markets officer, Ian McLernon, said. “Grégory’s strong credentials and experience will undoubtedly enhance our ability to build our brands for the longer term and grow faster across these countries.”

This week, Rémy Cointreau reported marginal sales growth in the three months to the end of June, with cognac revenues on the up, but liqueurs and spirits declining.
