The head of scotch whisky distiller Gordon & MacPhail has announced he will be “stepping away” from the business after just over a year in post.

Phillip White (below) said he made the decision “due to a (positive) change in our family’s circumstances” via a post on LinkedIn, after joining the Elgin-headquartered company in April last year. Information on who will succeed White at the Benromach brand owner was not immediately available.

White’s previous experience includes 11 years at the now-defunct – since April 2020 – UK joint venture between Bacardi and Brown-Forman, finishing as market manager for the Republic of Ireland. Following that, he held senior roles at Brakes Group, Kent Frozen Foods and Medina Foodservice.

Global Drinks Intel has contacted Gordon & MacPhail for comment on the news and an exact date for White’s departure.

“I’ve grown as a leader, made lifelong connections, and leave with a deep appreciation for the values that define Gordon & MacPhail as a brand and as a family business,” said White on LinkedIn.

“As I look to my next chapter, I’m excited to explore new opportunities where I can bring the same energy, clarity and commercial focus to another ambitious organisation — this time back in the south of England — and ideally one where I can once again combine strategic leadership with operational excellence, and build something meaningful with a great team.”

In other scotch news today (21 May), Loch Lomond Group headed across the Atlantic to purchase The New York Distilling Co.
