Californian wine giant E&J Gallo Winery has made another purchase in its home state, this time for Rombauer Vineyards.
The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, sees the privately owned company take ownership of Rombauer’s namesake brands along with three production sites and around 700 acres of vineyards. Rombauer, founded 43 years ago by Koerner and Joan Rombauer, has vineyards in California’s Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Sierra Foothills and Santa Lucia Highlands regions.
Price-wise, Rombauer 2022 Sauvignon Blanc has an SRP in the US of around US$28 per 75cl bottle, while the 2019 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon costs in the region of $75.
Gallo said it intends to “work … alongside the very talented Rombauer leadership and winemaking team” going forward.
The group, which is three generations into its family ownership, has announced a raft of acquisitions over the last 12 months, including Denner Vineyards in November, and Hahn Family Wines two months ago. Beyond Californian wine, Gallo has also bought the Fishers Island Lemonade spirits-based RTD brand and canned wine and spritzer business Bev.
