E&J Gallo Winery has increased its vineyard footprint in California even further, acquiring Paso Robles-based Denner Vineyards.
The privately-owned group, which is the world’s largest wine producer, will fold the high-end Denner business into its ‘Luxury Wine’ division. Denner’s Rhône and Bordeaux varietal wines carry a price point of between US$50 and $80 per bottle.
As is consistently the case with Gallo, financial details around the transaction were not disclosed.
The company has been lively on the M&A front, across not only wine but also spirits and not only at the high-end of wine’s price ladder but also on ‘value’: In July, Gallo bought a stake in Bourbon brand Horse Soldier through the Spirit of Gallo unit, while last year it completed the purchase of around 30 wine brands that were surplus to requirements at Constellation Brands.
Denner was founded by Ron Denner in 1997 and owns Willow Creek Vineyard and Adelaida Vineyard, both in California.
