This year’s World Gin Day (June 13) comes at a worrying time for the on-premise channel in many markets. Whether it’s a classic gin & tonic serve or a fruity Pimm’s cup, gin’s crisp, botanical, refreshing flavour profile should make the spirit an ideal base for a thirst-quencher on a hot summer day and a reliable seasonal back-bar stalwart for many hospitality venues.
But, are the operational realities of running a profitable bar spoiling this classic spirit’s potential?
Staff shortages, soaring pour costs and the absolute necessity for lightning-quick bar service during peak summer weekends or key sports events mean that bar managers must constantly choose between maintaining operational efficiencies and ensuring high-quality execution. When an outdoor terrace is packed on a scorching afternoon, a multi-step premium gin cocktail can become a costly bottleneck.
Increasingly, for such high-volume on-premise settings, premium RTDs are an attractive solution. Once dismissed as a cheap, low-margin, low-quality choice, the RTD category has been undergoing a massive premiumisation drive. In 2025, according to IWSR, RTD volumes grew 3% globally, with the category expanding between 2019 and 2025 by an impressive CAGR of 8%. In the UK, a top gin market, the fact that 41% of consumers report buying premixed alcoholic RTDs has prompted a wave of major RTD brand launches.
Subsequently, for savvy bar owners, this convenient format is no longer a compromise. RTDs are becoming vital tools to lock in consistency, eliminate backbar waste, and maximise margin at volume.
As World Gin Day approaches, here are four eye-catching gin-based RTDs that have been released in recent months with the on-premise in mind.
Bruichladdich and White – A high-strength masterclass
For high-end bars and restaurants, the fear has always been that their patrons will look down on RTDs as cheap, mass-market offerings. However, a major new collaboration between Gin Guild members Bruichladdich Distillery and Whitebox shatters that myth.
The pair have just launched a limited-edition, four-strong collection of full-strength, bar-quality canned cocktails featuring The Botanist Islay Dry Gin, as well as the Classic Laddie and Port Charlotte whiskies.
With SKUs including The Botanist Dry Martini and White Negroni, this bartender-oriented collaboration proves that spirit-forward classics can successfully translate into ready-to-serve formats without losing their quality-oriented craft distillery character.
The range also allows high-end bars to serve complex, high-margin cocktails at pace.
Whitley Neil – Higher ABV and summery flavours
For those venues that cater to a crowd looking for cutting-edge flavours and the punch of a higher-strength spirit base, the entry of Halewood Artisanal Spirits’ Whitley Neill brand into the RTD space earlier this year is a big deal.
Launching at the end of April in a high-strength 8.3%-ABV format in 25cl cans, each can contains 5cl of premium gin. Available in 12-can multipacks for the on-premise, the range offers two trendy summery flavour combos: Japanese Yuzu & White Strawberry Gin with Lemonade and Rhubarb & Ginger Gin with Ginger Ale.
Gordon’s – Making the spritz a communal affair
To capture the increasingly important early-evening, communal drinking crowd, Diageo has stepped outside the traditional single-serve can offering in RTDs with the launch earlier this year of Gordon’s Spritz, a big move for the top-selling international gin brand by volume. Clocking in at 8.4% ABV, the range combines wine flavours with Gordon’s in a large 75cl bottle designed for easy table sharing.
Available in Elderflower & Citrus and Watermelon & Berry flavours, this larger format allows pubs and bars to serve up to five premium spritzes per bottle over ice. For busy bar owners, it helps boost daytime terrace spend-per-head while lowering labour costs.
Ritual Zero Proof – Don’t forget the non-drinker
Catering to the designated driver and the ever-expanding sober-curious demographic is no longer optional. For these discerning customers, look no further than Ritual Zero Proof, via Diageo North America, has entered the RTD space with a permanent line of lightly carbonated, single-serve cans.
Crucially for June and World Gin Day, the line-up includes a non-alcoholic G&T built entirely on the flavour profile of their award-winning Gin Alternative. It offers the exact same bite and botanical complexity as a standard pour, allowing venues to target sober guests at a premium price point with zero preparation time.
