Rémy Cointreau has launched an extension of its Cointreau liqueur mark, aimed at the spicy margarita serve.

The chilli-infused, 30%-ABV SKU, Cointreau Spicy, will be rolled out to the UK this month in the on- and off-premise channels with a per-bottle SRP of GBP27 (US$36.36). According to the brand owner, Cointreau Spicy has been “built to meet the growing demand for spicy margaritas”.

The release will be accompanied by activations, including a branded bar serving spicy margaritas at London festivals this Summer, as well as retail and on-premise “visibility” for the NPD. Global Drinks Intel has enquired about other market launches.

“We’re introducing Cointreau Spicy in response to a clear shift in consumer demand for bold, flavour-led serves across both the on-trade and retail,” said Rémy Cointreau marketing director Nick Ganich. “Spice has moved firmly into the mainstream, and consumers are increasingly looking for drinks that deliver excitement while maintaining a well-balanced flavour profile.

“With spicy margaritas emerging as one of the fastest-growing cocktail trends, Cointreau Spicy has been developed to make it easy to create consistent, great-tasting spicy cocktails at home or in bars, helping unlock one of the fastest-growing trends and bring incremental value to the category.”

Last week, Rémy Cointreau-owned scotch-whisky business Bruichladdich entered the ready-to-drink category with four canned cocktails that contain either scotch or gin, both produced at the unit’s Islay distillery.
