The brand owner’s flagship liqueur will be available in Ecospirits’ reusable packaging concept to bars in the country run by multiple operator The Alchemist. The 4.5-litre storage and dispense system, which holds the equivalent of almost six-and-a-half bottles of Cointreau, will be present in The Alchemist’s London-based outlets “over the next few months” ahead of a wider rollout to all 23 bars across the country by the end of this year.
Rémy Cointreau initially announced its partnership with Ecospirits, which is part-owned by Pernod Ricard, towards the end of 2022.
“The reusable and sustainable ecototes will significantly reduce single-use packaging waste, allowing the bars to minimise environmental footprints and eliminate an estimated 3,532kg of packaging waste over the next 12 months along with an 76.7% reduction in CO2 footprint, as well as 1,680 trees planted,” the brand owner said. “As part of the Ecospirits ‘Forest Programme’, one tree is planted for each cycle of an Ecotote through the Ecospirits closed loop network.”
The Alchemist’s brand director, Jenny McPhee, added: “Cointreau features in several of our most popular cocktails. With the ecotote introduction, we will see a significant reduction in single-use bottles and our overall carbon footprint.
“As a brand, we are constantly searching for ways to improve sustainable practices within the business, and it’s important that we work with suppliers who align with our goals. Ultimately, we would hope to see additional spirit brands using ecototes over the next few years.”
In December, Diageo released details of a three-year trial with Ecospirits in 18 markets for its Captain Morgan rum, Gordon’s gin and Smirnoff vodka brands.
