Barcelona-based MG Destilerías has bolstered its presence in spirits-based premixes through this week’s purchase of Coppa Cocktails from Toorank International Spirits.

The transaction, announced yesterday, sees the 16-strong Coppa range placed alongside the MG Spirit brand in its new owner’s RTD portfolio. Financial details about the acquisition were not disclosed.

Once the sale has completed, which is expected this month, production of the premix cocktails will move from the Netherlands to MG’s facility in Vilanova i la Geltrú, south-west of Barcelona.

Founded by Toorank CEO Natal da Graça, the Coppa brand has a presence in 60 markets with expected full-year sales, according to MG, of 300,000 9-litre cases. Packaged in 70cl cocktail shaker-shaped bottles, the line’s bestsellers include Coppa Margarita, Mojito, Piña Colada and Strawberry Daiquiri. The full portfolio carries ABVs of between 10% and 15%.

“In addition to being the ideal complement to our brand portfolio, it (the Coppa brand) also opens up new opportunities in key regions like the US and Europe, as well as in the global travel retail channel” said MG CEO Manu Giró.

Family-owned MG, which was founded in 1835, claims to have been the first manufacturer of gin in its home country. The company had a hand in the development of the Gin Mare brand, which was acquired by Brown-Forman in September 2022.
