José Cuervo visitor guide Elisavet Hernández has moved up from part- to full-time with the company following her recent graduation from university.
The former student, who now has a degree in tourism, had previously been working weekends at ‘Mundo Cuervo’ in the Mexican town of Tequila while she focused on her education during the week. Hernández completed her studies in May and has subsequently taken on a permanent position as a tour guide with the Tequila giant.
Hernández was born in Phoenix, Arizona, but moved to Tequila, where both of her parents are from, at the age of ten.
“It is so wonderful working at Mundo Cuervo,” Hernández said. “It was a bit difficult at the beginning because there’s a lot to learn, but when you find a passion for tequila, it’s amazing how you can fall so much in love with something.
“There’s a lot to talk about, from the raw material, which is agave, to its production, and even the way it should be drunk,” she added. “There’s so much to learn about the drink from its classes, its categories and the effort that goes into each tequila.
“The best thing about my job is how you learn.”
As well as La Rojeña, “the oldest distillery in Latin America”, José Cuervo’s Mundo Cuervo business also handles the ‘José Cuervo Express’ train service that runs between nearby Guadalajara and Tequila.
