Tilaknagar Industries has been given permission to start production at the newly expanded Prag Distillery in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
The bottling unit, which operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tilaknagar, received a INR590m (US$6.2m) cash injection for its development last year. The investment has increased the site’s annual capacity from 600,000 nine-litre cases to 3.6m nine-litre cases.
According to the Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) producer, the expansion would enable Prag Distillery to meet “nearly 50%” of the group’s volume requirements for Andhra Pradesh, one of the company’s largest markets in India by both value and volume. The Imperial Blue brand owner added that the extra capacity would create “meaningful cost efficiencies and improved margins leading to enhanced profitability”.
The site bottles the entire Tilaknagar Industries range, including Mansion House and Courrier Napoleon brandies, a spokesperson confirmed to Global Drinks Intel. There was no disruption to existing operations during the expansion project at the facility.
“This capacity expansion will strengthen Tilaknagar Industries’ owned unit footprint and secure supplies for our flagship brands in Andhra Pradesh, which is one of the fastest growing states for the IMFL industry,” said chief strategy officer, Ameya Deshpande.
“The expanded capacity at Prag marks a key milestone in the company’s growth strategy and reinforces its commitment to strengthening manufacturing capabilities in fast-growing alco-bev markets across India.”
In July last year, the Delhi-based group bought the blended whisky brand Imperial Blue from Pernod Ricard. The acquisition was partly credited with Tilaknagar’s 95% sales uplift in its third quarter of fiscal 2026 – for the three months to the end of December – to INR6.64bn (US$73.19m).
