Sierra tequila owner Borco has changed its name to reflect the German company’s takeover by Stock Spirits.

The privately-owned business was absorbed into Stock Spirits for an undisclosed sum in July last year. Subsequently, Hamburg-headquartered Borco, known more comprehensively as Borco-Marken-Import Matthiesen, has adopted its owner’s name this week.

“The rebranding represents an important milestone in our integration with the Stock Spirits Group,” said Borco/Stock Spirits Germany’s recently-appointed MD, Nicolas Rampf. “From the outset, it was important for us to consolidate our strengths and create synergies. Now we can … advance integration even faster and better and further expand our position in the industry.

“In addition, further investments in Germany are planned, which are an important part of the growth strategy.”

Stock Spirits, which was itself acquired, by private equity group CVC Capital Partners, in 2021, added Clan Campbell to its vodka-laden portfolio in June. A spokesperson for the blended scotch’s former owner, Pernod Ricard, told Global Drinks Intel at the time that the whisky had annual sales of around 1.3m nine-litre cases, primarily in France.
