Stock Spirits has lined up its second acquisition in the space of a month, agreeing to purchase Germany-based spirits brand owner and distributor Borco.

Two weeks after lining up the blended Scotch whisky brand Clan Campbell from current owner Pernod Ricard, private equity-owned Stock Spirits will also snap up Borco, which has the full name Borco-Marken-Import Matthiesen, from its founding family. Financial details around the transaction, which is subject to regulatory approval in Germany and Austria, were not disclosed.

Borco’s highest-profile owned brand is Sierra Tequila, which launched in Germany around 40 years, while the company also purchased Finsbury Distillery Co, and its namesake gin, in 1993. The company also operates as a distributor for third-party brands in Germany and Austria.

Once complete, the acquisition will allow Stock Spirits, which operates predominantly in vodka in Central and Eastern Europe, to enter the Tequila category through Sierra.

“Our investment in Stock Spirits assumed M&A growth into new geographies across Europe and we are delighted that the business is making a strong progress in this strategic direction,” said Krzysztof Krawczyk, a partner in Stock Spirits owner CVC Capital Partners. “Borco’s brands, in particular Sierra Tequila, have a great international potential, which we want to develop, and it’s an important addition to Stock’s geographic footprint.”

Stock Spirits’ CEO is Jean-Christophe Coutures, who started in the role a year after spending 20 years with Pernod Ricard. His last position with the French multinational was CEO of the Chivas Brother Scotch whisky division.
