Pernod Ricard has pulled a portfolio consolidation move, preparing the offload of blended Scotch whisky Clan Campbell to Stock Spirits.
The divestment, which is for an undisclosed fee, also includes the Clan Caribbean rum based spirit drink extension of the brand. An in-principle agreement has been reached between the two parties and frees up Pernod Ricard’s attention span for blended Scotch flagships Chivas Regal and Ballantine’s.
“This transaction is part of Pernod Ricard’s active portfolio management, aiming at adapting to
the evolving needs of its consumers and providing greater opportunities for premiumisation,” the group said today.
Speaking to Global Drinks Intel, a spokesperson for Pernod Ricard added that Clan Campbell sold in the region of 1.3m nine-litre cases in 2022. The brand’s suggested retail price in France, its largest market ahead of Italy, Luxembourg and Spain, is around EUR18 [US$20] per bottle.
Clan Campbell follows the Tormore distillery and brand out of the door with the Scotch assets transitioning from Pernod Ricard to Elixir Distillers almost exactly a year ago. Fellow spirits multinational Brown-Forman made a similar, higher profile move earlier this week readying the divestment of vodka brand Finlandia to Coca-Cola HBC.
Operating primarily in Central and Eastern Europe, Stock Spirits is more of a vodka specialist. The company was taken over by private equity group CVC Capital Partners in late-2021.
