Pantalones, the tequila brand co-founded by US actor Matthew McConaughey and wife Camila, has launched in Australia.
Three iterations – blanco, reposado and añejo – have gone on sale through off-premise multiple Dan Murphy’s and online in the country this month. The trio will have respective SRPs of AUD109.99 (US$69.80), AUD119.99 and AUD139.99 per 75cl bottle.
Australia marks the first international market for the tequila business, which was founded in 2023. Five months ago, Pantalones agreed a US distribution arrangement for its namesake brand with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits.
“With an overwhelmingly successful first year in the US, we are really looking forward to taking Pantalones to the next level with our first international market, Australia,” said Pantalones chair Andrew Chrisomalis.
Last year, the McConaugheys fronted an ad campaign for Pantalones, which is produced by an unnamed family-owned distillery in Amatitán in Jalisco, positioning the brand as the “Official Tequila of Pickleball”.
Matthew McConaughey has had a presence in spirits since 2016, when he assumed the role of creative director for Campari Group’s Wild Turkey bourbon.
