Diageo has commenced operations at a US$415m production and warehousing facility in the capital city of Alabama in the south of the US.

The 360,000-square-foot site, ‘Diageo Montgomery’, has an annual production capacity of “multi-million” nine-litre cases, the group said today. The opening has created 100 full-time jobs.

Global Drinks Intel has contacted Diageo for details on which brands will be produced at the site and which regions it will supply.

Investment in the site was initially announced in January last year. It was initially expected to be fully operational in the second half of 2025.

“The opening of Diageo Montgomery marks an important step forward in building the agile, future‑ready supply network that our business demands,” said the president of the company’s North America division, Marsha McIntosh. “By placing this facility at the heart of the southern region, we’re not only strengthening our connection to customers, but also setting a new standard for efficient, sustainable manufacturing.

“This site reflects our long‑term commitment to accelerating innovation, ensuring our iconic brands reach consumers with greater speed and significantly lower environmental impact, and investing in local communities.”

In March, Diageo announced that Sally Grimes, the head of its North American operations, had stepped aside. Grimes’ replacement is yet to be confirmed.
