Angus Dundee Distillers has marked the 200th anniversary of its Glencadam Distillery with the opening this month of the facility’s new visitor centre.

The asset, which commences trading this weekend, is the result of a “multi-million-pound” investment by the family-owned company. A total of 12 new positions have been created across hospitality, retail and tours, with the centre also set to attract more tourists to the Highland distillery and the surrounding area of Brechin.

As well as retail operations and a cafe, the building, which sits alongside the production facility, also houses a “whisky lounge” and function suite.

“Opening our doors today is a moment of immense pride for everyone at Glencadam,” said Angus Dundee director Iain Lochhead. “This visitor centre is … a celebration of 200 years of tradition, people and place, providing a unique opportunity to explore the history, craftsmanship and stories behind one of Scotland’s oldest working distilleries.

“It marks an exciting new chapter not just for Glencadam Distillery, but for the entire Brechin community.”

Almost two years ago, Angus Dundee, which also owns the Tomintoul scotch brand and distillery, broke ground on a whisky production facility in China. The company told Global Drinks Intel at the time that operations were set to kick off this year.
