Maison Ferrand has dropped the name of its Plantation rum brand in favour of Planteray.

The family-owned company, which was founded in 1989, will debut the new name through the worldwide rollout of Planteray Cut & Dry Coconut Rum, which includes among its ingredients coconuts grown on its source island of Barbados. With an ABV of 40%, the coconut-infused extension will go on sale in markets including France, the UK and US as well as across the Caribbean with an SRP of EUR45.99 (US$50) per bottle.

The name change will apply across the Plantation portfolio, which also features Barbados XO 20th Anniversary and Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple.

“It was a long journey of trademarking a name that reflects our brand ethos in 120 countries,” said Ferrand owner Alexandre Gabriel. “Naturally, the rum … will still be produced with the same expertise, attention and care but now as Planteray Rum.”

Ferrand, which is based in Cognac, also owns the Pierre Ferrand cognac and Citadelle gin brands. The company acquired Planteray producer West Indies Rum Distillery in 2017 – WIRD has been the rum’s distiller for Ferrand since the brand’s debut 21 years ago.
