Compass Box has officially confirmed the recruitment of its next CMO, with the change having taken place two months ago.

The London-headquartered company, which describes itself as an “independent scotch whiskymaker” said today (12 May) that Ivo van den Brand assumed the marketing lead in March. His appointment followed the departure of Racheal Vaughan Jones, also in March, after three years, the last of which as CMO, with Compass Box.

Van den Brand (below) joined the privately-owned business having spent the last ten months working in a freelance capacity as a “strategic advisor & start-up mentor”, prior to which he was CMO at surplus food operator Too Good To Go. He reports in to CEO Nishat Gupte, who has been in post since March last year.

“What excited me most about joining the business is the clarity of the company’s ambition for future growth and the opportunity to help more people discover Compass Box in ways that feel culturally and locally relevant to them,” said van den Brand. “Our aim is now to build on these foundations and unlock the next chapter of growth across key markets in North America, Asia and Europe, while ensuring everything we do continues to reflect the quality, creativity and character that defines Compass Box.”

In figures released by trade organisation the Scotch Whisky Association in February, total exports for the category in 2025 came in flat in value terms on a 4.3% decline in volumes.
