Trade association Beer Canada has confirmed that its president, CJ Hélie, is retiring this month.
Hélie, who has overseen the day-to-day operations of the Toronto-based organisation since 2021, is stepping back after having “completed over 38 years in the Canadian beverage alcohol industry”. Stepping into the presidency will be Richard Alexander, who joins Beer Canada from Monday (20 October).
Although specific details about Alexander’s previous career were not disclosed, the trade association said he is “a veteran Canadian executive with extensive experience in hospitality, regulated businesses, business associations and effective advocacy”.
“Richard is uniquely qualified to lead Beer Canada at this critical time for the Canadian beer industry, bringing a wealth of experience, enthusiasm and a track record of successes in advocacy,” said the chair of the organisation – and president of Moosehead Breweries of Canada – Andrew Oland.
Beer Canada claims to represent around 90% of “all beer consumed by Canadians annually” through its membership.
Earlier this month, Labatt Breweries, AB InBev’s operating division in the country, confirmed plans to release Michelob Ultra Zero in the market in the coming days.
