Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits has agreed the acquisition of Horizon Beverage Group, boosting its US state presence to 47.
The purchase, for an undisclosed sum, will see Horizon’s operations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, “as well as their wine, spirits and beer portfolio”, join Southern Glazer’s. The regional distributor will shift across, with its existing business structure unaffected, to sit under east region president Scott Oppenheimer.
Among the brand owners that Horizon deals with are Brown-Forman, Heineken and Suntory Global Spirits.
“The Epstein and Rubenstein families have spent four generations building an exceptional business and legacy in New England …,” said CEO Wayne Chaplin. We expect all existing and new supplier partners, as well as customers, to benefit from our two companies’ strengths and expertise, and look forward to building on the great foundation already established in the valuable Massachusetts and Rhode Island markets.”
The acquisition will complete once regulatory approval has been cleared.
In March, Southern Glazer’s bought Miami-based WEBB Banks, which handles alcohol distribution to markets around the Caribbean and Central & South America.
