  • Decline in first quarter of 4.4% contributes to half-year sales at -3.8% – $1bn

The Boston Beer co has seen its quarterly sales levels remain at the ‘low single-digit decline’ level as the second quarter slipped by just over 3%.

The Samuel Adams beer and Truly RTD owner said late yesterday (23 July) that the three-month sales performance (to the end of June) was stronger than the first quarter of 2026. Combined, the two quarters resulted in a first-half top-line decline of 3.8% on the corresponding six-month period in 2025.

Volumes in Q2 slipped by 4.5% with increases for the Sun Cruiser vodka-based RTD and Angry Orchard ‘hard’ (meaning alcoholic) cider brands failing to offset decreases from RTDs Hard Mountain Dew, Truly and Twisted Tea and from beer marks Sam Adams and Dogfish Head.

For the first half of this year, Boston Beer noted a “favourable” product mix alongside the impact of pricing as having helped slow the rate of sales decline in Q2 compared to Q1.

“As we continue to navigate a challenging operating environment, we are managing the business with discipline while investing behind our category-leading brands and bringing innovation to market,” said founder & CEO Jim Koch. “We are highly focused on marketplace execution for the remainder of the summer selling season and improving market share trends.”

Looking forward, Boston Beer highlighted the “supply chain improvements” it had implemented last year, noting that the resultant “more consistent levels of distributor inventory in terms of weeks on hand” would affect shipment phasing in the second half of this year.

“The company expects shipments to decline low to mid-single digits year over year in the third quarter, followed by modest shipment growth in the fourth quarter,” it said.
