Watt, who co-founded the Scottish brewer with Martin Dickie 17 years ago, is making way for Arrow, who only joined BrewDog in September. The change sees Watt take up a newly-created position of “captain”, according to an internal letter posted on X earlier today.
Arrow (below) was new to the alcohol industry when he assumed his current role with the brewer, having previously been with Boots Opticians in the UK for four years as MD. He also spent 11 years with Dixons Carphone, rising to become e-commerce & direct sales director.
“Under his (Watt’s) leadership, BrewDog has grown to become the world’s leading craft brewer, employing 2,530 people across its head office, four breweries and over 120 bars,” said company chair Allan Leighton. “I am especially pleased he will continue to offer his insight … and energy to the board.”
In the letter, Watt wrote: “During my time at BrewDog, there have been highs and lows, ups and downs, crazy successes and incredibly hard challenges. When I look back on the last 17 years, my overwhelming feeling is one of gratitude.”
Just over a year ago, the company agreed a production and distribution arrangement in China through a JV deal with Anheuser-Busch InBev’s unit in the country.
