Takara Shuzo International, the owner of the Tomatin brand, has commenced the rollout of a pack update across the single malt scotch whisky’s permanent portfolio.

The Japanese group, which has owned the Tomatin business since 1986, is leveraging the Scottish company’s on-site cooperage – and the associated importance of wood to the maturation process – in the refresh. The brand’s new box is “adorned with a wood-grain motif, symbolising the natural tree rings found in oak” and signifying an “evolution from the previous landscape-led design”, the company said.

At the same time, Takara Shuzo is adding the term ‘Triple Cask’ to Tomatin’s 12-year-old expression. Starting with the Tomatin 12 Year Old Triple Cask and Legacy single malts, the revamp will roll out worldwide from this month, extending to the rest of the core range “in the months ahead”.

“This … new packaging reflects what we do best at Tomatin – exceptional cask management, craftsmanship and attention to detail,” said Tomatin’s head of marketing, Jennifer Masson. “It aligns our visual identity with consumer expectations in modern retail and on-trade settings and gives our whiskies greater presence in global markets.

“Our focus remains unchanged – creating remarkable single malts at excellent value for whisky lovers around the world.”

Earlier this year, India’s Radico Khaitan announced its desire to acquire a scotch distillery of its own, through a newly-created division in Scotland.
