BrewDog has appointed restructuring specialists to investigate investment options, although a sale of the Scottish craft brewer is reportedly “underway”.

The company, which is also an on-premise operator, has launched a structured review aimed at securing fresh investment or exploring a full or partial sale, according to a report by The Financial Times. The report also cited unnamed sources that are familiar with the matter as saying that “a sales process was underway involving … its brands, its brewing capacity and its pub estate”.

BrewDog told the FT it had appointed AlixPartners “to support a structured and competitive process to evaluate the next phase of investment for the business”. The company described the move as “a deliberate and disciplined step” focused on long-term sustainability, adding that no final decisions have been made.

The Punk IPA brand owner said its breweries and bars continue to operate as normal.

In August last year, BrewDog enacted a round of structural changes as part of efforts to simplify operations and strengthen its position. The move followed plans announced a month earlier to shutter ten BrewDog-branded on-premise outlets in the UK as part of a “rationalisation of our bar footprint”, including the company’s flagship bar in Scotland.

In personnel news last year, co-founder Martin Dickie said he would step down from the business – and leave the alcohol industry – for “personal reasons”.
