Diageo has confirmed this year’s line-up of its annual Special Releases single malt scotch whisky bottlings.
The eight expressions make up the 25th set of one-offs, which debuted under the ‘Rare Malts Collection’ line in 2001. Ranging in age from eight to 21 years old, four of the eight will be available in 20cl packs as well as in 70cl.
Having rolled out late last week to spirits specialists in the off-premise channels of Australia, Canada, Europe, the US and selected Asian markets, as well as online and in the global travel retail channel, the single malts will all be on sale in limited quantities. Specific numbers were not disclosed.
Among the novel maturation and finishing techniques employed this year are the use of volcanic rock-toasted American oak for the Talisker iteration – “a first for the … distillery” – and a combination of ex-mezcal and -sherry for the finish of The Singleton of Glen Ord’s 17-year-old.
Just over a month ago, Diageo prepared a marketing partnership with US singer Sabrina Carpenter for its Johnnie Walker blended scotch flagship. The tie-up will manifest at venues during Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet tour, which concludes in Los Angeles on 23 November.
