Anheuser-Busch is poised to spend US$14m on its brewery in Houston, Texas, bringing the total invested in the facility over the last 15 months to almost $37m.
Having announced a $22.5m investment in the site in August last year, the US unit of AB InBev said late last week that the latest cash injection brings the amount pumped into the Houston brewery over the last five years to approaching $2bn. Among the areas set to benefit are the warehouse with a new roof and the canning lines with air rinsers “in order to reduce water usage”.
The division also invested $16m in its Los Angeles brewery two months ago as well as $8m in St Louis.
“We’ve been producing high quality … products for generations,” said AB CEO Brendan Whitworth. “Through continued investments in our facilities like our Houston brewery, we’re improving our capabilities and also contributing to the prosperity of the communities we serve.”
In unfortunate timing for the company, news broke earlier this month of plans to shut one of Elysian Brewing Co’s sites in Seattle. Anheuser-Busch, which acquired the business nine years ago, will close the facility at the end of this year, according to local reports.
