“I can’t wait to join all the beer lovers and Hulkamaniacs in Ohio soon!”

Real American Beer has expanded its presence in the US, adding the state of Ohio to its footprint.

The brand, founded by former wrestler Hulk Hogan (real name Terry Bollea), is now on sale in ten markets across the country. Ohio joins the likes of Colorado, Florida and Michigan, with the 4.2%-ABV beer available in both the on- and of-premise channels.

Launched in June and positioned as a “premium American-style light lager”, Real American Beer leans heavily into its provenance for a sales cue. “America’s at its best when united,” the brand’s website states. “And if there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s the simple pleasure of sharing a beer. That’s why we started Real American Beer – to bring people together, one beer at a time.”

Last year, Budweiser owner Anheuser-Busch InBev saw its flagship brand impacted by a consumer boycott in the US as the result of a social media post by transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Speaking exclusively to Global Drinks Intel earlier this year, group CEO Michel Doukeris said the company takes a “long-term view” for its brands. “This situation was no different,” he added.

“Despite crises that happen here and there, and occasional turbulence in the business, in the long term, we continue to be absolutely confident in our capabilities and the brands we have.”
