- Three-month sales to end of June decline by 1.1% to EUR51.6m (US$60m)
- For first half of 2024, top-line down 3.9% at EUR94.9m
- Group considering new export destinations “to compensate for the maturity of traditional markets”
Marie Brizard Wine & Spirits has seen its rate of sales declines slow in the most recent quarter, when domestic sales delivered a slight lift.
For the three months to the end of June, the William Peel blended scotch brand owner’s sales dipped by just over 1%, an improvement on Q1’s -6.9% showing. The company also highlighted in the results announcement its “key priority” to look to emerging markets in Asia and Africa.
At home, the France-based group noted a rise in quarterly sales of 1.6% thanks in part to the introduction of price rises at the start of March. Also credited was the country’s on-premise channel for performing “well” in Q2.
Outside of France, however, problems remain, with the second quarter dipping by 3.2% after Q1’s -12.2% slump. In the US, a healthy (albeit unspecified) rise for Sobieski was “entirely absorbed” by decreasing sales of the namesake liqueur portfolio. Meanwhile, an alarming fall of almost 47% was reported in Asia Pacific, where the Marie Brizard brand is also struggling, particularly in Australia, Korea and Taiwan.
“Geographic expansion also remains a key priority, despite the current difficulties in the export market, with a particular focus on emerging markets in Asia and Africa,” the group said. “By expanding our international presence, we are looking for growth drivers to compensate for the maturity of traditional markets in Europe and North America.
“This expansion is essential if we are to diversify our sources of income and capture new growth opportunities.”
