Ten-year-old craft spirits specialist Conecuh Brands has recruited externally for its next CEO.

Stephen Lewin (below) is stepping into the role vacated by Roy Danis. Lewin joins the Prospero tequila and McConnell’s Irish whiskey owner from Ambassador Theatre Group, where he has spent the last eight years as CEO for North America.

His career has also included 16 years with Moët Hennessy, on the sales & marketing side for Veuve Clicquot in the US from 1988 to 2005.

Incumbent Danis, who assumed the lead a year after Concecuh commenced operations, will stay on in an advisory capacity to “help with the transition of Lewin as the new president & CEO”.

“Conecuh has been my baby for so many years so this is a little bittersweet for me,” said Danis. “However, I feel confident that I’m leaving at a time when the company is well established and poised to deliver strong results … here in the US and around the world.”

Based in New York, Conecuh is due to open a new distillery for the Clyde May’s American whiskey in Troy, Alabama, later this year. The company is named after the Conecuh Ridge area in the southern state.
