Heineken has confirmed the release of the lower-ABV extension of its namesake lager brand in the US.
Heineken Silver, which carries an ABV of 4%, has been lined up for a nationwide launch “this spring”. The beer will sit alongside Heineken, which is stronger at 5%.
Targeting both the on- and off-premise in the country, the SKU will be available in 35cl bottles as well as in 35cl and 71cl cans. SRPs for the pack formats were not disclosed.
“The most anticipated product launch in company history, Heineken Silver takes centre stage as a premium new option in the light lager category that makes up nearly half of the US beer market by volume,” the brewer said this week. “At 4% ABV, Heineken Silver is brewed specifically for the American palate with a more accessible flavour profile and 3.2g of carbs and 95 calories in a 12oz [35cl] serving.”
Late last year, the brand owner prepared the ground in the US, securing official naming rights for a Formula One race. The ‘Formula One Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix’ will be a night race on the streets of the city on 18 November.
