This year has undoubtedly been a challenging one for the drinks industry but for the international closure group Tapì, 2022 has been buoyant, marked by commercial growth and a repositioning of the firm’s corporate image and product offer.

Established in 1999 close to Venice, Italy, Tapì has grown organically and through external acquisitions over the past 15 years to become an innovation-led multinational group designing closures for premium and super-premium wines and spirits. In 2019, Tapì was named by Deloitte as one of Italy’s best-managed companies.

Despite these achievements, marketing manager Paolo Boratto hails Tapì’s presence at the annual Luxe Pack packaging exhibition in Monte Carlo last month as a “turning point” for the company. The event provided the first opportunity to present a new identity both for Tapì and Delage, a French closure producer acquired in 2019.

“The concept for the [Luxe Pack] stand was designed as a pathway, leading the visitor to discover the new reference worlds adopted by the company in a move to increasingly speak its customers’ language – Status, Craft, Style, Gourmet and Planet – finally arriving at the display focussing on Delage and its products,” explains Boratto.

For Tapì, the five ‘worlds’ are a new way of classifying and presenting its product range. Each one features products with certain features, designed and developed for diverse packaging design purposes.

• Status – the “stylish and sophisticated soul” of Tapì; a world rich in “details, flaunting elegance and uniqueness”

• Craft – handmade and authentic are the watchwords, while the slogan of this world is “rugged with soul”

• Style – This world is defined by “simplicity, elegance, sophisticated lines and great ideas”

• Gourmet – a home-oriented realm where “comfort and intimacy” are the main attributes

• Planet – a greener world where wood is the hero material and where “beauty, design, products and sustainability come together in a perfectly matched design”

Following this reorganisation of Tapì’s product portfolio, the company has revealed details of new and relaunched closures available in 2023.

These include:

  • Starlight and Starlight Mix

Both these closures are designed to guarantee a secure airtight seal for the liquid to be contained without risk of breakage or detachment. To achieve this, these closures are fitted with a ferrule located below the head that fixes the head and stem with a strong bond that prevents the closure from breaking apart or splitting during use.

All aspects of the Starlight and Starlight Mix closures can be customised. The head and ferrule may be constructed either as a clear element or in a range of colours, creating a variety of combinations.

The stem may also be customised in any colour; there is also the option of having both the head and stem printed with a customised motif, such as a logo or coloured script.

  • Starcap Vintage Effect

This process results in a vintage effect that replicates natural ageing and communicates authenticity and a retro vibe. It may be applied to Tapì’s Starcap (bar tops) or SCR Aluminium (screw caps) lines. Moreover, the finish can be colour-customised with debossing or embossing on the top and on the side.

  • Monobloc

Tapì’s classic closure line has been given a new lease of life with an environmentally-sustainable enhancement. The cap is now made of a single piece, so material recycling is made simpler and has less impact on the environment.

  • Abor

Taking its name from the Latin word ‘ab origine’ meaning ‘from the origin, from birth, from where something began'”‘, the Abor range gives a second life to waste raw ingredients from the distillation process that are plant-based and biodegradable.

Closures can be made from marc, barley malt, sugar cane, maize, rye, agave, juniper and other natural materials from which the world’s most famous spirits are made. “Thus, the closure can narrate details about the bottled spirit’s terroir in a unique way,” says Boratto.

  • Duo

The Duo closure line has a minimalist design and a high level of customisation, but its main feature is its decomposability: the interlocking wooden head and bioplastic stem are easily detached from each other for easy recycling.

  • T-Cask

The T-Cask range is another eco-friendly innovation, featuring a design that supports the environment and helps to reduce our impact on it. T-Cask incorporates wood from casks used in spirits maturation that are nearing the end of their lifecycle.

“The result is an exclusive, sustainable closure that incorporates deep, engaging storytelling – narrating the origins of the product,” says Boratto. “It does more than just highlight a brand’s green design values, as it is investing in the production of its own closure creation.”
