Vranken-Pommery Monopole has booked a half-year sales lift as the Champagne and wine group prepares for what it believes will be a “fine” harvest.

The producer and brand owner said late last month that for the six months to the end of June, sales came in up by approaching 5% on the same period a year earlier. The Champagne business, which is by far the company’s largest, increased sales by 8.7% to EUR100.8m, more than offsetting a 10.3% decline – to EUR7m – from its wine division.

While its namesake Champagne brands Vranken and Pommery continue to be the group’s “driving forces”, the company also noted that consumer interest in Heidsieck & Co Monopole appears to have “renewed” in recent months.

The group made light of the double-digit slide from its wine operations, saying that sales are expected to be “postponed to the second half”.

Turning its attention to this year’s Champagne harvest, Vranken-Pommery flagged good weather in the first half of 2023 as a contributor to what it believes will be a healthy season in both quality and quantity terms.

Full-year sales, meanwhile, are forecast to beat 2022 by “at least” 5%.

In January, trade association Comité Champagne reported a 1.6% lift in 12-month volumes for the Champagne industry from 2022.
