Listed champagne, port and wine group Vranken-Pommery Monopole has posted a slide in sales from the 12 months of last year.

The company, which is home to the the Vranken, Pommery & Greno and Heidsieck & Co Monopole brands, said earlier this week that its total sales in 2024 fell by 10.5% on the year prior, coming in at EUR302.9m (US$315.6m). The champagne operations, which account for almost 87% of the group’s sales, fell 9.4% to EUR263.2m, while its wines from France’s Camargue and Provence regions tumbled by 20.1% (EUR21.9m).

The rest of Vranken-Pommery’s brands, featuring Rozès and Sao Pédro ports and Louis Pommery sparkling wines from California and England, were down a combined 12.6% on 2023 at EUR17.7m.

In qualifying the full-year performance, the company flagged recent figures from trade association Comité Champagne indicating a 9.2% volumes decline across all champagne exports in the period, while lower harvests due to poor weather resulted in reduced yields of between 30% and 40%.

“Sales (of champagne) represented 33% in France and 67% for export,” the company said. “Most markets are down, while Benelux and Australia are up. North America remains stable compared to 2023.”

Vranken-Pommery also noted “significant” downturns in France and the European Union for its ports and wines from Portugal’s Douro Valley, “despite strong international growth”.
