Chile-headquartered group Viña Concha y Toro has transferred Thomas Domeyko from his export director role to head up operations at its Cono Sur Vineyards & Winery division in the country.

Domeyko, who celebrates his 30th anniversary with Concha y Toro this year, has been appointed as CEO of the unit this month, a company spokesperson confirmed today. The switch represents a return of sorts for the executive, who spent four years leading the group’s Trivento wine brand in Argentina between 1997 and 2001.

He has spent the last six years export director for Concha y Toro’s distribution subsidiaries globally.

The spokesperson said that Domeyko replaces Giancarlo Bianchetti at Cono Sur. Bianchetti, another long-serving employee for the group, shifted from the Bonterra Organic Estates business in California to Cono Sur in September last year.

In an interview with Global Drinks Intel last year, Domeyko conceded that the group was facing a challenging future. “Today, we’re starting to see some green shoots that things aren’t declining anymore,” he said in July. “The downside is that this is coming at the same time as the economic slowdown.

“Consequently, we’re seeing more of the growth at the base of the pyramid, with entry-level wine, than at the upper part.”

Concha y Toro’s full-year sales for 2023 came in down 3.8% as a 5.1% top-line lift in the closing quarter countered a 7.4% decline in the first nine months.
