Spain-based Qantima Group is preparing the release of a multi-regional Caribbean rum that has been finished in ex-Sherry casks.
Cab-Ron will debut at trade exhibition Bar Convent Berlin at the start of next month. The expression comprises a blend of “extra-aged” rums from Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Jamaica.
Once blended, the liquid is then shipped to Spain to be finished in barrels previously used to mature Oloroso Viejo Seco and Pedro Ximénez Sherries as well as ex-Bourbon casks.
“Cab-Ron is a mixture of selected aged and extra old rums – each one of them distilled in its country of origin – which is characterised by the total absence of additives,” said Qantima CEO Manuel Villa. “Once in Spain, we decide in which barrels each of them will mature, at what alcohol level and for how long.”
Qantima, which will announce further details at BCB [Stand 17 B 37] on 10 October, has pledged a portion of the brand’s profits to Alzheimer’s disease researcher the Pasqual Maragall Foundation.
The company also owns the Sikkim gin brand and handles Spanish importation responsibilities for third-party brands such as Waterford Irish whiskey.
