Whyte & Mackay has teamed up with Scottish museum V&A Dundee for the latest range extension of single malt Scotch The Dalmore.

‘The Luminary Series’ will comprise three annual releases, with the Luminary No.1 2022 Edition featuring two expressions, a 48- and a 15-year-old single malt. Three units of ‘The Rare’ have been created, one of which will go up for auction with Sotheby’s in London, with around 15,000 bottles of ‘The Collectible’ launching globally.

The pair have both been finished for around 15 months in casks made from a combination of ‘Kintsugi’ Japanese, American and Scottish Tay oak, while the 15-year-old iteration has also spent time in Italian Amarone red wine casks.

While ‘The Rare’ will be paired with a sculpture by V&A Dundee architect & designer Kengo Kuma, The Collectible’, which carries an SRP in the UK of GBP250 (US$267), will be available from specialist spirits retailers worldwide and in the Global Travel Retail channel, but not in the US.

Whyte & Mackay intends to retain the dual aspect throughout the rest of the series.

The brand owner, which is owned by Philippines-based Emperador, is in the process of upgrading The Dalmore’s distillery in Scotland’s northern Highlands region. The facility, which is set to reopen in 2024 will have the ability to double its production capacity once a further eight still are installed alongside the current eight.
