Whyte & Mackay has promoted its MD for Europe & Global Travel Retail (GTR) to the post of chief commercial officer.

Mike Greggs (below) took up the position earlier this week, according to a post on LinkedIn, after spending the last nine years with the Dalmore brand owner. He takes over from Nick Garland, who stepped down last Friday (29 May) after 17-and-a-half years at Whyte & Mackay.

Greggs joined Whyte & Mackay in 2017 as the GM of operations in the UK, France & Germany markets and became director of the group’s Europe business division in 2020. Before joining the Scotland-headquartered group, he spent eight-and-a-half years at Diageo, working up from customer marketing director to global commercial effectiveness director.

“It is a huge privilege to be given this opportunity to lead the commercial function and head our sales and marketing teams across our markets,” Greggs wrote. “I’m excited and daunted in equal measure, but I know that we have huge opportunity to grow our business.

“Despite global turmoil and recent category challenges, there is much to be optimistic about. Our category has out-delivered the rest of spirits over the past 20 years, and I am confident it will do so again over the next twenty.

“At Whyte and Mackay, we have delivered ten-times growth over the past two decades, and we are committed to delivering above-average market growth over the next decade. I have full conviction that we will recruit more consumers to our brands and and premiumise the whisky category as we do so.”

Whyte & Mackay announced the appointment of Michael Sloan as CEO in September, taking the helm from Bryan Donaghey, who had held the position for 12 years. Later that month, the group promoted Neil McKenna to replace Sloan as financial lead, while Pierluigi Ratti moved to become supply chain & bottling director.
