Santo Mezquila, which the company claims was “the first commercially available tequila/mezcal blend in the US”, is on sale from this week in all 50 states. Availability has also been extended to Canada and Puerto Rico, according to Santo Spirits, as well as Japan.
Retailing at US$69.99 per 75cl, the expression is on sale through off-premise spirits specialists and online to US consumers.
San Diego-based Santo Spirits, co-founded in 2019 by musician Sammy Hagar, originally secured “limited [US] distribution” for the 40% ABV spirit in 2017. The liquid comprises Santo Blanco Highland Tequila with mezcal produced at an undisclosed distillery in the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico.
“I launched Santo Mezquila as my … return to agave spirits after the sale of Cabo Wabo to Campari Group [for US$80m in 2007],” said Hagar. “My vision was to create something that was totally different … but still created using very traditional techniques that let the agave and a light smoke essence shine through.”
In January, the brand owner unveiled ‘A Reputation Earned’, the first nationwide marketing activation in the US for the tequila portfolio.
