The couple behind the now-AB InBev-owned Nütrl RTD brand have invested in the Los Sundays tequila company, three months after having ventured into the beer category.

Paul and Melissa Meehan, who sold Nütrl to AB InBev’s Labatt Breweries unit in their native Canada six years ago, have undertaken a “significant strategic investment” in Los Sundays. The size of the investment – and any impact on the company’s ownership structure – was not disclosed, although the pair will take up seats on the company’s board and assume “advisory roles for the US business”.

Los Sunday was set up in California nine years ago by Mitchell Hayes, Oliver Williams and the Orozco family. The business has a four-strong range under its namesake brand and is poised to add Canada to its US presence in the coming weeks, backed by a “tequila-soda RTD”.

The transaction, through the Meehans’ Me&brands alcohol investment vehicle, comes just over three months after the entrepreneurs made a similar move with the ChillyOnes no- & low-alcohol beer company.

“There are lots of tequila products and okay brands out there, but Los Sundays is, in our opinion, the best tasting and most disruptive of them all,” the Meehans said. “We see the same white space in Canada that we saw a decade ago with RTD, and we’re thrilled to back this team as we bring Los Sundays and a new tequila soda innovation North in 2026.”

Citing Nielsen data for the 52 weeks to 28 March, Los Sundays was described as the “19th fastest-growing tequila brand in the US”. As well as the usual blanco and reposado iterations, the brand also features two flavoured tequilas; a coconut blanco and a jalapeno blanco.
