Zamora Co has a 1m-case brand on its hands after flagship Licor 43 hit the landmark last year.
The Spanish company, which has been adding to the liqueur’s portfolio in recent years, trumpeted today that Licor 43’s annual volumes from the start of 2022 to the end of November totalled 1m cases for the first time. According to Zamora, 90% of the year’s volumes were accounted for by the Original expression.
The 12-month performance in 2022 represented a year-on-year volume jump for the brand of 30%.
While domestic sales accounted for 10% of Licor 43’s volumes, the brand’s largest market is Germany with 20% share, followed by Mexico [16%] and Brazil [14%]. Just ahead of Spain in the top five were the Netherlands at 13% and the US with an 11% volume share.
“The last ten years have been seriously exciting for Licor 43,” said global brand director Oliver Svatek. “Brazil is where we’ve seen the most growth with market share increasing ten-fold since 2019 as we have worked with our distribution partner, Aurora, to focus on the Carajillo 43 serve … .Ditto in Germany where Licor 43 & Milk continues to reign supreme, whereas in other European markets, it is more de rigeur to drink Licor 43 on the rocks.”
In July, Zamora booked a 20% increase in group sales for the full 12 months of last year. Licor 43 was up 33% in value terms in 2022.
