The gin category has a big role to play in the ongoing recovery of the on-premise after the Covid-19 pandemic wreaked havoc on the channel, according to a report in next month’s Global Drinks Intel magazine.
Data from CGA by NielsenIQ’s ‘On Premise Measurement’ (OPM) research and ‘On Premise User Survey’ (OPUS) indicates that 94% of the UK’s on-premise outlets stock gin. The segment’s wide availability is being driven by high consumer demand: non-flavoured gin is consumed on ‘all’ or ‘nearly all’ occasions by almost 45% of UK drinkers in the sales channel.
Beyond the UK, other on-premise markets displaying a high interest in gin include Australia, Canada, Italy, New Zealand and the US, where the OPM and OPUS platforms found “a disproportionately male (68%) gin-drinking population”. According to the report, 42% of the channel’s gin consumers in the US are aged 34 or under.
