US start-up Amoon Spirits has launched what it claims is the world’s first “smart vodka”, introducing an app-connected bottle system.
The company’s namesake brand features packaging that has been designed to light up, to spin a vortex inside the bottle and to synchronise with an app for custom effects. The system uses the company’s patented ‘Vortex Control Unit’, which powers an internal stir bar and LED lighting.
Through the Amoon app, drinkers can change colours, patterns and vortex speed, turning the bottle into a display piece as much as a spirits vessel.
The start-up, founded by entrepreneurs Mark McLaurine II and Christopher Tooley, spent six years developing the tech. The full smart-bottle system retails for US$249.99, with replacement bottles priced at $49.99. A standard, non-connected version of the vodka’s bottle is also available for $39.99.
Amoon said it will continue expanding the platform with new digital features and plans to introduce additional smart-enabled spirits, including gins, tequilas and bourbons. The range is now available through Amoon Spirits’ website and online on ReserveBar.
Earlier this month, Tito’s Handmade Vodka launched a US marketing activation for the Thanksgiving holiday, reworking the traditional ‘Turkey Trot’ fun run into a more leisurely ‘Turkey Rot’.
