Reducing the environmental impact, without increasing the final price. This is the latest bet of Enoplastic, historical brand of Crealis Group specialising in capsule and closure solutions, presenting the new Derma75L as a more sustainable evolution of the widest-used polylaminate for sparkling foils at the same price of the former version.

Just to understand the impact of this operation, around 1,800 tons – 600m units – of the former Derma75 is produced per year for bottles of sparkling wine.

Thanks to the use of a new and more performative aluminium alloy, Derma75L reduces carbon emissions by 17% compared to the former version (Source: Independent Life Cycle Assessment on 2023 data, realised with the methodological support by Deloitte), ensuring the same performances of the finished product.

“We are investing to ensure increasingly sustainable and qualitative materials maintaining final prices unchanged: a free of charge ‘upgrade’ for our customers, absorbing all the additional costs in terms of production process and raw materials,” says Crealis GM Davide Pagano. “This is a responsible choice that demonstrates how much we believe in the value of innovation for a tangible breakthrough in sustainability, but also in the circularity of the process: any improvement beyond production scale benefits the whole supply chain, helping our partners to reach their environmental goals.

“Basically, a win-win solution toward economies of scale that will make sustainability more accessible, even from an economical point of view”.

This philosophy, which has already been adopted for the launch of PET+ (produced with 35% of recycled plastic at the same price as the previous version with 20% of recycled plastic), is part of an ESG strategy that in recent months has seen Crealis commit to short-term corporate reduction targets based on the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi): -42% for direct (Scope 1) and indirect greenhouse gas emissions related to energy consumption (Scope 2), and -25% for the indirect emissions from activities within the supply chain (Scope 3). The targets are pending approval related to 2022 data and will be realised by 2030.

Within the first semester, Crealis has also brought to full capacity the operation of the new Solvent Recovery Plant at Enoplastic’s site, an innovative structure that allows the Bodio Lomnago production site to work without purchasing any solvents.

Founded in 1957 in Bodio Lomnago (Varese, Italy), Enoplastic is the global leader in the production of closure solutions for the wine and spirits industry, producing heat shrink and polylaminate capsules, sparkling foils, screw cap, wirehoods and technical corks.

Since 2022, the company is part of Crealis, an international group and global leader in the production of closure solutions with EUR300m of turnover per year, 1,500 employees, 17 production sites in eight countries and a commercial presence in more than 70 countries, producing 5bn closures per year.

Enoplastic is flanked by seven other specialised brands operating in different segments of the closures industry: Pe.Di and Supercap in Italy, Sparflex and Le Muselet Valentin in France, Rivercap in Spain and, overseas, Maverick Enterprise in California and Corchomex in Mexico.

Around 35% of the group’s total turnover is made in Italy and the governance of  the group is overseen by CEO Michele Moglia.
