Here’s a round-up of sustainable-packaging innovation from alcohol brand owners in the month of July.


Petalscape 2025 range
SHARE

Full Glass Wine Co’s Scout & Cellar Petalscape range

  • New-release Californian wine range in Frugalpac paper bottles, featuring two SKUs: Petalscape 2025 Sauvignon Blanc and Petalscape NV Red Blend. Bottles produced in King City, California by Monterey Wine Company using the Frugal Bottle Assembly Machine, supplied by UK packaging company Frugalpac
  • Made from 94% recycled paperboard with a food-grade pouch, claimed to be five times lighter than a standard glass wine bottle with a carbon footprint “up to 84% lower than glass”. Frugalpac containers also use “around five times less water and energy to manufacture” than conventional glass bottles
  • Debuted at a series of Scout & Cellar ‘garden parties’ in California. Now available nationwide, D2C in the US via the Scout & Cellar website and in the off-trade with an SRP of US$23 per 75cl bottle

Zamora Co’s Ramón Bilbao bottle

  • Lightweight Bordeaux-shape bottle, weight reduced from 450g to 420g
  • Zamora Co estimates the new bottle will lead to a reduction of 318 tonnes of glass and 77.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) of greenhouse gas emissions per year
  • Availability requested

The Fladgate Partnership’s Taylor’s bottle

Taylor’s bottle selection
  • Lightweighted bottle design, weight reduced from 580g to 440g
  • Expected to save approximately 350 tonnes of glass every year across the brand’s annual 2.5m bottle production, and reduce bottle-manufacturing emissions by “around” 210 tonnes of CO₂ annually
  • To be rolled out “progressively” across the Taylor’s range “as existing stocks are replaced in markets around the world”

Rev-O-Box’s reversible wine box 

Rev-O-Box reversible wine box
  • Reversible packaging designed to be used as a shipping container and gift box, targeted at “retailers, brands, e-commerce stores, wineries, subscription companies and direct-to-consumer businesses”
  • Claims to “support sustainability by extending the useful life of packaging”
  • Currently available in Canada, Mexico and the US – delivery outside of these three markets is available but carries a minimum order requirement of 250 boxes

Kirin Group’s Steinlager returns system

Lion returnable crate and bottle system
  • Consumer-facing returnable crate-and-bottle scheme for Steinlager beer bottles; digital trackers on crates are scanned at tills to “borrow” the packs; reconfigured bottle that can “better withstand multiple reuse cycles”
  • Estimated to cut carbon emissions by 64% over Steinlager bottle’s lifecycle compared with existing single-use packs
  • Launched as a trial at 48 Super Liquor stores in Auckland, New Zealand, potential for nationwide rollout
