The owner of Cazcabel has commenced construction of a distillery for the Tequila brand at a cost of US$37m.
The facility, which will open next year, is located in Atotonilco El Alto in Mexico’s Jalisco municipality. When contacted by Global Drinks Intel, a spokesperson for the Vazquez family said the distillery will have an annual production capacity of around 12m litres.
The investment comes as the family prepares the roll-out of the Cazcabel range in the US. According to the family, the brand, which sold around 200,000 nine-litre cases “outside of the Americas … in the last year”, has a target of 1m cases worldwide by 2025.
Launched eight years ago, Cazcabel’s portfolio includes three flavoured expressions – Coconut, Coffee and Honey – that join the Blanco and Reposado flagships. In the UK, a 70cl bottle of Blanco carries an SRP of GBP25.99 (US$28).
