Casa Azul has attracted another high-profile investor with the tequila and tequila-based RTD brand owner welcoming soon-to-retire professional golfer Michelle Wie West to its ranks.
The Los Angeles-based company said late last week that Wie West has become a “brand investor”, joining American footballer Travis Kelce and actor Eiza González. Details on the sum and size of the stake purchased in Casa Azul by the sportsperson were not disclosed.
West has won five LPGA titles in her career, including the US Women’s Open in 2014, and plays in her final Women’s Open in the US this month.
Debuting with Casa Azul Tequila Soda in the US a year ago, the company unveiled a blanco, a reposado and an añejo in April. The trio are on sale now in 12 states, including California, at US$69, $89 and $129, respectively.
The brand is not the only tequila to look to golf: In the run-up to Father’s Day in June, Pernod Ricard’s Tequila Avión recruited two sportsmen to create and promote a pair of gift boxes featuring the brand along with golfing accessories.
