A senior executive with Campari Group is set to take on the role of president at trade association SpiritsEurope from one of their peers at Rémy Cointreau.
Patrick Piana (below), the Aperol brand owner’s MD of Europe, the Middle East & Africa, will assume the non-operational position for its next two-year term from this month. The executive, who took on the lead responsibilities for the Middle East and Africa to sit alongside his Europe remit almost exactly a year ago, takes over from Rémy Cointreau’s group chief markets officer, Ian McLernon.
Coincidentally, Piana previously worked at Rémy Cointreau as the CEO of the Rémy Martin brand from 2009 to 2014.
According to SpiritsEurope, which is based in Brussels, its president, who is only in post for two years each time, is charged with “engaging with EU policymakers to ensure a supportive regulatory framework that enables the spirits sector to continue creating jobs, generating growth and contributing to the vitality of communities across Europe.”
Almost exactly a year ago, the organisation, which “represents the interests of the spirits sector in 31 national associations as well as of the 11 leading multinational companies”, confirmed the appointment of Mark Titterington as its next DG. Titterington assumed the lead in September, replacing Ulrich Adam, who stepped away after 8 years.
