Pernod Ricard has introduced two premix extensions of its The Glenlivet single malt that the brand owner claims utilises “first-to-market technology”.

The Glenlivet Twist & Mix Cocktails comprises a ready-to-serve New Manhattan and an Old Fashioned. The pair debut in the US this month – with additional, unspecified markets lined up in the coming months – with an SRP of US$21,99 per 37.5cl bottle.

The premixes feature a mechanism in the bottle’s cap that adds to the whisky the flavours required to make the cocktails. The patent for the technology is held by Arizona-based packaging company Vessl.

“This project provided us with the challenge of reinventing the ready-to-serve experience within a highly competitive market segment,” said the global head of innovation at Pernod Ricard’s Chivas Brothers division, Yogesh Gandhi. “What has been achieved puts the consumer at the heart – no mess, fuss or skill required to create a bartender-level, freshly mixed cocktail in seconds.”

Speaking exclusively to Global Drinks Intel earlier this year, Chivas Brothers CEO Jean-Etienne Gourgues highlighted the importance of innovation in maintaining the relevance of single malt Scotch. “We shouldn’t take the resilience of Scotch for granted,” Gourgues said in January. “We need to continue to safeguard its future and futureproof our workforce.

“Our vision is to open up Scotch to new audiences, lead the way in promoting sustainability in our industry, continue innovating and build a more engaged and representative team.”
