‘The result is a crystal-clear … liquid that retains the rich depth of flavour consistent with the Chivas Regal house style, while offering the versatility and mixability of a clear spirit.’

Pernod Ricard’s Chivas Brothers scotch whisky division has extended its namesake flagship blended scotch with a clear spirit expression.

Chivas Regal Crystalgold, which launches this week, has an ABV of 40% and will carry an SRP in the UK of GBP51 (US$68.50). The spirit drink is created by filtering what Chivas Brothers called “oak-aged spirit” and is sourced from a “bespoke, exclusive blend that is refined through a … process involving special temperature conditions and precisely measured flow rates”.

The age of the spirit was not disclosed.

Chivas Brothers has the early-evening consumption occasion in mind for Crystalgold. More specifically, the extension will look to take share from tequila brands traditionally used in longer drinks.

“With Chivas Regal Crystalgold, we set out to … create a clear spirit that nodded to the elevated signature taste and quality the brand is known for, and preserve all those complex flavours,” said Chivas Regal’s master blender, Sandy Hyslop. “The result is a spirit drink that feels both unexpected, yet … true to the brand in character, despite looking so different to the existing Chivas Regal range that inspired it.”

Kicking off with a presence in “a range of retailers”, including Amazon, in unspecified markets, the expression’s launch has been timed to coincide with the Singapore Grand Prix this weekend. Late last year, Pernod Ricard signed a sponsorship arrangement for Chivas Regal with the Scuderia Ferrari HP F1 team.
