Moët Hennessy has added to its domestic presence, acquiring majority control of rosé producer Château Minuty in the south of France.
Almost eight months after buying Joseph Phelps Vineyards in California, the group has spent another undisclosed sum, this time on Saint-Tropez-based Minuty. The namesake brand, which sold around 9m bottles last year, comprises a portfolio of wines ranging in per-bottle price from EUR15 [US$16] for the entry expression M, to around EUR45 for 281.
The Matton family, now in its fourth generation of ownership, will continue to run the estate.
Minuty, which has been listed as a Grand Cru Classé Côtes-de-Provence since 1955, will sit alongside the likes of Chateau d’Yquem and Chateau Galoupet in the Paris-headquartered company’s French wine stable.
Moët Hennessy, which is part of the larger LVMH high-end goods group, is around 35%-owned by Diageo. For the 12 months of 2022, year-on-year sales for the wine & spirits business were up 11%, with the ‘Champagne & wines’ reporting division eclipsing its ‘Cognac & spirits’ sibling, climbing 24% versus the latter’s +14%.
